On a hot August day in 1780, Shawnee Indians attacked settlers near Fort Nashborough, killing William Neelley and capturing his 17-year-old daughter, Mary. As the Revolutionary War raged, Mary was taken hundreds of miles to the British-controlled Fort Detroit, where she discovered a plot between the Indians and the British to overthrow the Colonists once and for all. Desperate to return to her family and sound the alarm, she tries repeatedly to escapenever knowing how close she is to both death and freedom.

Inspired by the true story of p.m.terrells ancestor, Mary Neely, Songbirds are Free is a story of the will to survive and a determination to triumph over seemingly insurmountable odds.  Learn more at www.maryneely.com
